Position Title: Managing Director

Job Summary Statement/Purpose:
The Managing Director is responsible for effective leadership of the organisation, developing high quality business strategies and plans ensuring their alignment with short-term and long-term objectives. The Managing Director must ensure attainment of shareholder value, consolidating Sasria’s position as a leader in its sector, delivering operational excellence and sustainability of the business.

Qualifying Criteria

• Lead the development and execution of the organisation’s short and long-term strategy.
• Maintain a deep knowledge and awareness of the market and industry.
• Oversee all operations and business activities to ensure they produce the desired results and are consistent with the overall strategy and mission.
• Review financial and non-financial reports to devise solutions or improvements, in line with the PFMA and applicable regulations.
• Ensure financial sustainability of Sasria, enabling it to deliver on its mandate, and lead growth initiatives.
• Ensure that the Sasria brand is promoted and stakeholder perceptions remains favourable.
• Build trust relations with key partners and stakeholders and act as a point of contact for important stakeholders in order to enhance Sasria’s business.
• Ensure the development of policies and procedures to eliminate Risk as well as irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure.
• Ensure the development of the policies and procedures for compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
• Develop and drive Sasria’s transformation agenda.
• Lead and drive organisational values in order to maintain a healthy organisational climate.
• Perform any reasonable task as and when required by the Board of Directors and/or The Shareholder.

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree (Business Administration, Finance or related fields).
• Post graduate qualification in Business Administration (or similar).

• Minimum 8 years in Senior Management/Executive, responsible for strategy development, financial performance and corporate governance.
• Proven experience as CEO or in senior management positions.
• Experience in developing profitable strategies and implementing vision.
• More than 10 years’ experience in short term insurance or financial services sector.
• 2 years’ experience in board engagement.
• Public Administration background (Added advantage).

• Insurance Laws / Regulations.
• PFMA.
• Non-life insurance sector.
• Laws pertaining to management of companies, compliance and corporate governance.
• Strong understanding of corporate finance and performance management principles.
• Familiarity with diverse business functions such as marketing, PR, finance etc.
• In-depth knowledge of corporate governance and general management best practices.

• A visionary with an entrepreneurial mindset and outstanding organizational and leadership skills who can lead the organisation to its next level.
• Ability to think and act creatively, problem solve and develop strategic and operational plans that take into account risk assessments, budgetary requirements and organisational needs.
• Motivated and reliable with the ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.
• Ability to invoke trust and credibility within and outside the organisation.
• Ability to inspire and motivate others while being an example of ethics and integrity.
• Ability to stimulate a high level of workforce performance and the development of staff.
• Ability to make decisions and act independently within the organisational accountability framework and Strategic Plan.
• Commitment to self-development and a vision for success in the role.
• Ability to ensure the ongoing development of the organisation’s profile and brand, securing a sustainable market position.
